Project Description

Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst

These works to the external envelope of six occupied accommodation blocks and the Officers Mess within the Victorian built “New College”.  Extra care and attention was needed to minimise the disruption caused in carrying out the work which involved the carefully planned window refurbishment to these buildings.

After agreeing a strict sequence of work with the Academy, the refurbishment of the windows was carried out with military precision.  The sliding sashes were removed, recorded and labelled, stripped of existing ironmongery and brass chains, which were then tagged and sent off site for renovation and cleaning.  Temporary screens were inserted into the windows openings whist this process took place.

Repairs to damaged sashes and replacement of broken glass were undertaken and all external window putty renewed.

Working in conjunction with the painting contractor, grooves were routered into the existing Victorian window sashes and modern insitu draught proofing installed.  The window sashes were then replaced into their original openings using the refurbished ironmongery and brass sash chains.
